EnviroScience biologists hold specific collection permits and can quickly obtain collection permits to move your project forward. They have experience in completing full-spectrum habitat assessments and species-specific surveys for numerous state and federally endangered and threatened species, including:
- Freshwater mussel surveys and translocations
- Endangered bats
- Burrowing owls
- Birds of prey
- Plant inventory
- Reptile and amphibian surveys (including Massasauga Rattlesnake surveys)
- Running Buffalo Clover and other vegetative surveys
- Crayfish (including Guyandotte River and Big Sandy crayfish surveys)
In addition, EnviroScience’s strong technical reputation with regulatory agencies allows our company to rapidly complete agency coordination, including:
- Section 7 Consultations
- Biological Assessments
- Programmatic Agreements
- Litigation
- Resident Important Species (RIS)
- Population Estimates
- Qualitative Surveys
- Quantitative Surveys
- Habitat Surveys
- Presence Absence Surveys
The purpose of the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA), passed by Congress in 1973, is to prevent the extinction of native and foreign animals and plants. The ESA is under the administration of two federal agencies. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), including the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), is responsible for all endangered and threatened marine species. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is responsible for freshwater fish and all other species. With some exceptions, the ESA prohibits activities affecting these protected species unless authorized by a permit from the USFWS or NMFS.
The activities authorized by permits differ depending on whether the species is listed as endangered or threatened. An “endangered species” is defined as any animal or plant that is in danger of extinction. A “threatened species” is defined as any animal or plant that is likely to become endangered in the near future.
For endangered species, permits may be issued for scientific research, enhancement of propagation, survival of the species, conservation education, and education regarding unintentional destruction that is incidental to an otherwise lawful activity. For threatened species, permits also may be issued for zoological, horticultural, or botanical exhibitions; educational use; and special purposes consistent with the Act.

Few environmental firms in the country retain EnviroScience’s degree of scientific know-how, talent, and capability under one roof. The diverse backgrounds of our biologists, environmental engineers, scientists, and divers enable us to provide comprehensive in-house services and an integrated approach to solving environmental challenges—saving clients time, reducing costs, and ensuring high-quality results.
Our client guarantee is to provide “Excellence in Any Environment,” meaning no matter what we do, we will deliver on our Core Values of respect, client advocacy, quality work, accountability, teamwork, and safety. EnviroScience was created with the concept that we could solve complex problems by empowering great people. This concept still holds true today as our scientists explore the latest environmental legislation and regulations and incorporate the most up-to-date technology to gather and report data.
EnviroScience expertise includes but is not limited to aquatic surveys (including macroinvertebrate surveys and biological assessments); ecological restoration; ecological services (including impact assessments, invasive species control, and water quality monitoring); emergency response; engineering and compliance services; endangered mussel surveys; laboratory and analysis; stormwater management; threatened and endangered species; and wetlands and streams (including delineation and mitigation). Further, EnviroScience is one of the few biological firms in the country that is a general member of the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) and offers full-service commercial diving services.
