For over 30 years, EnviroScience’s respected team of biologists has been conducting biological inventories—including mammal surveys. In these large biological surveys, small mammal trapping and collection are required. We have the equipment and offer customized methods of mammal capture for the appropriate purpose and study site. Our biologists are experienced in small mammal trapping, including:
- Visual and track ID
- Trail camera sampling
Live-capture trapping (accomplished by both live and pitfall trapping) is the most commonly used sampling technique and proper method for studies that include species of concern. This method of trapping also provides the most dependable and informative data about population numbers and habitat preferences.
Trail cameras are also a good low-impact passive sampling technique to document larger mammals in a project area. EnviroScience biologists have used bait stations with trail cameras set for specific large mammal groups such as predators, scavengers, and herbivores. Coupled with small mammal live trapping, visual, and track ID, these techniques give clients an understanding of the types of mammals, habitat preferences, and population dynamics at a specific project site.
