The Clean Water Act is a federal statute established to maintain and restore the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the waters of the United States. Section 404 of the Clean Water Act authorizes the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to regulate the discharge of dredged or fill material into the waters of the United States, including wetlands, streams, and other waters. To define the location, size, and quality of waters of the United States, the USACE established a delineation protocol. A delineation is required for all projects that involve potential impacts to waters of the United States.

EnviroScience has a full-time team of trained wetland biologists who have extensive delineation experience.  Our expertise spans the country and includes most projects and industries.  A delineation study includes:

  • A review of resource maps to identify potential resource areas on and adjacent to the site
  • A site visit to identify all water resources on and adjacent to the site
  • Wetland boundary flagging using survey-grade Global Positioning System (GPS)
  • Wetland classification
  • Photograph documentation

Streams and openwater features are also delineated and documented often. We document the delineation in a report in accordance with USACE reporting requirements. A digital map is produced in either AutoCAD or GIS (based on client preference) that accurately shows the resource boundaries and location. The report also includes all documentation and summaries often required for submittal to the USACE.

Few environmental firms in the country retain EnviroScience’s degree of scientific know-how, talent, and capability under one roof. The diverse background of our biologists, environmental engineers, scientists, and divers enables us to provide comprehensive in-house services and an integrated approach to solving environmental challenges—saving clients time, reducing costs, and ensuring high-quality results. Our expertise includes but is not limited to: aquatic survey (including macroinvertebrate surveys and biological assessments); ecological restoration; ecological services (including impact assessments, invasive species control, and water quality monitoring);  emergency response; engineering and compliance services; endangered mussel surveys; laboratory and analysis; stormwater management; threatened and endangered species; and wetlands and streams (including delineation and mitigation.) Further, EnviroScience is one of the few biological firms in the country that is a general member of the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) and offers full-service commercial diving services.
