EnviroScience employees participating in Bike Month and supporting sustainability through cyclingAt EnviroScience, environmental stewardship isn’t just something we help our clients achieve — it’s a value we strive to embody every day.

That commitment was on full display during this year’s Bike Month challenge, as employees across the company chose to leave their cars behind and log miles on two wheels. Together, participants surpassed the company’s goal of 1,100 miles, riding a combined 1,224 miles throughout the month.

The impact of those miles extends beyond personal health and wellness. By choosing to bike instead of drive, participants helped offset approximately 458 kilograms (0.46 metric tons) of carbon dioxide emissions. That’s roughly equivalent to:

  • Charging more than 56,000 smartphones
  • Burning about 50 gallons of gasoline
  • The carbon sequestered by approximately 7-8 tree seedlings grown for 10 years

For a company dedicated to protecting and restoring natural resources, these collective efforts reflect the same environmental values that guide our work in the field every day.

Congratulations to Dave Altfater, senior aquatic ecologist, who logged the most miles during Bike Month with 421 miles ridden, and Tyson Kurtz, wetland project manager, who was the first participant to complete and submit a Bike BINGO card.

Events like Bike Month are just one example of how EnviroScience encourages employees to support one another, prioritize wellness, and make a positive environmental impact — both professionally and personally.

A special thank you to everyone who participated and to Brad Bartelme, algal/toxin operations manager, for coordinating another successful event.
