On March 22-23, 2024, the Pennsylvania Chapter of The Wildlife Society convened its annual conference in State College, PA, attracting wildlife professionals from across the state. As a Silver Sponsor, EnviroScience played a pivotal role in this significant event, which focused on the “Status and Management of Pennsylvania Species of Greatest Conservation Need.”
EnviroScience’s Involvement
The entire Pennsylvania team from EnviroScience, including Terrestrial Operations Manager Christina Voorhees, Ecologist and Bat Project Manager Luke Fultz, Herpetologist Stan Boder, Herpetologist Stacy Foster, and Herpetologist Rex Everett, attended the conference, showcasing their commitment to wildlife conservation and ecological research. Their participation underscored the company’s dedication to advancing the conservation of species at risk within the state.
Spotlight on Rex Everett
Rex Everett, a distinguished herpetologist at EnviroScience, who presented on a key conservation project, highlighted the event.
His talk, titled “Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake (Sistrurus c. catenatus): Monitoring Using Adapted-Hunt Drift Fence Technique (AHDrFT),” offered insights into innovative methods for studying this threatened species. The research, conducted in conjunction with colleagues Stan Boder and Stacy Foster, demonstrated high detection frequencies and provided valuable data on the snake’s habitat and prey.
Everett’s presentation emphasized the practical applications of their findings in enhancing conservation strategies for the Eastern Massasauga, an important but vulnerable Pennsylvania species.
Additionally, Christina Voorhees, the current president of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Wildlife Society and a vital member of the EnviroScience team, highlighted the organization’s influence and leadership within the wildlife community through ongoing initiatives and collaborations.
Conclusion
The 2024 Pennsylvania Chapter of the Wildlife Society Conference was not only a platform for presenting research but also a testament to EnviroScience’s leadership in environmental stewardship and conservation. The company continues to be at the forefront of ecological research and conservation efforts, contributing significantly to the preservation of Pennsylvania’s wildlife.
