An excavator operates from a temporary platform within the Mahoning River at Lowellville, Ohio, removing remaining dam materials and reshaping the river channel. The surrounding riverbanks are lined with trees and exposed rock, illustrating the transition from an impounded pool to a free-flowing river. This work was part of the Lowellville Dam removal project completed between 2018 and 2020, which restored natural flow, enhanced aquatic habitat, and improved safety and ecological function along the Mahoning River.
