Senior Environmental Scientist

EnviroScience is excited to have Dr. Yakuta Bhagat join our team at the Stow office.  She has over 6 years of post-PhD experience in environmental consulting, research, and project management.  Dr. Bhagat has already been instrumental in the completion of several highly technical projects during her first weeks at EnviroScience.

Dr. Bhagat has a B.S. in Marine and Freshwater Biology from University of Guelph, Canada. She received her M.S. degree from University of Windsor, Canada where she focused on studying fish communities and developing multimetric and multivariate indicators of anthropogenic stress for Great Lakes coastal margins. Dr. Bhagat earned a Ph.D. from Trent University, Canada studying the degree of morphological adaptation and genetic variation in a highly invasive fish species in Portugal and Spain. Following her graduate studies, she completed a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship at Annis Water Resources Institute, Grand Valley State University in Michigan where she led research projects on invasive species distribution, sport fish recruitment dynamics and fish population assessments through long-term biomonitoring. Dr. Bhagat has worked in Environmental Consulting in Minneapolis handling projects ranging from water quality assessments and biological monitoring to evaluations of air emissions, sediment and groundwater. She spent a year and half in Singapore working at the Tropical Marine Science Institute, National University of Singapore where she led a long-term biomonitoring project on freshwater reservoirs and streams across the country. Prior to joining EnviroScience, she worked for the Natural Resources Research Institute, University of Minnesota, on developing fish indicators for the Great Lakes and developing a zoobenthic index for Lake Erie.

Dr. Bhagat’s core skills and expertise lie in water quality sampling and assessments; field sampling for benthic invertebrates, fish and sediments; multivariate statistical analyses; delivering presentations and writing technical reports, white papers, and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.
