David Altfater joined EnviroScience in 2020 and is a Senior Scientist in the Natural Resources Practice Area. David has a BS in Natural Resources with a special focus on Fisheries Management from The Ohio State University. He has 45 years of professional experience, including 34 years as a fisheries biologist and water quality scientist with the Ohio EPA Division of Surface Water.
David has managed and participated in many projects studying biological integrity, water and sediment quality, fish tissue, and habitat quality of aquatic resources in rivers and streams. He has extensive experience evaluating water resource conditions associated with municipal and industrial wastewater discharges, abandoned and active waste sites, brownfield properties, and Department of Energy and Defense sites.
David has Ohio EPA Level 3 certification for all fish sampling methods and QHEI. In addition, he is well-versed in Primary Headwater Habitat and HHEI protocols. David has directly monitored over 1,300 sites in over 300 streams and rivers in Ohio and the midwestern United States.
David enjoys woodworking, gardening, traveling, and working on Habitat for Humanity houses in his community.
