At EnviroScience, we are proud to celebrate a major milestone, Jeff Niehaus’s 20th work anniversary. Over the past two decades, Niehaus has built a career defined by technical expertise, leadership, and a deep commitment to environmental stewardship.
After graduating from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Niehaus joined EnviroScience in 2006. Since then, he’s has played a pivotal role in growing the company’s technical expertise and reputation across a range of environmental services.
From the Field to Leadership
Niehaus’ early years at EnviroScience were spent mostly in natural resources fieldwork, supporting ecological assessments and environmental response efforts. One major experience that made an impact on him includes responding to a railroad derailment, which highlighted both the importance of scientific accuracy and the value of expertise in high-stakes situations.
During that project, Niehaus identified a critical misclassification of fish species that had implications for regulatory reporting and potential fines. His ability to confidently apply his training, even in unfamiliar circumstances, reinforced the role EnviroScience plays in delivering accurate, reliable environmental insights.
Over time, his role has evolved from Natural Resources Specialist to a trusted Restoration Assessment and Survey Operations Manager. Niehaus mentions, “I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects over the years, and that variety is what’s kept it interesting.”
Today, he serves as a go-to resource for colleagues across the organization, where he provides guidance on species identification, field procedures and best practices. Niehaus notes, “People come to you with questions, and you want to make sure you’re giving them the right guidance. That’s something I take seriously.” His career growth reflects not only his depth of knowledge, but also the trust he has earned from both his team and clients.
Adapting to a Changing Industry
Over the past 20 years, Niehaus has seen the environmental consulting industry evolve. One of the most exciting developments in recent years, he noted, has been the integratio
n of drone technology within EnviroScience’s services.
He has been at the forefront of integrating drone utilization, alongside Kevin Wienhold. Both Niehaus and Weinhold have helped expand the company’s use of drones for applications such as environmental assessments, restoration monitoring, and vegetation management. These tools have opened new possibilities for efficiency, precision, and innovation in the field.
“Drone work is a big growth area for us,” Niehaus notes. “It’s still relatively new, but it’s becoming an important part of how we deliver services, and it’s something people are really interested in learning more about.”
A Career Built on Impact
While Niehaus’ responsibilities have grown and changed over the years, one thing has remained constant: his commitment to making a meaningful impact. Whether working on emergency response efforts, mentoring team members or helping advance new service areas, Niehaus’ contributions have helped strengthen EnviroScience’s ability to serve clients and communities.
Looking back, it’s the moments where his expertise made a difference that stand out most, along with the relationships built and experiences gained along the way. Niehaus acknowledges that the relationships he’s built over the years as well as company’s efforts to support its people that has contributed to his desire to continue his career path with EnviroScience.
What’s Next
As EnviroScience continues to grow, Niehaus’ experience and leadership will remain an important part of the company’s future. From embracing new technologies to supporting the next generation of environmental professionals, he continues to play an important role in driving progress.
Congratulations, Jeff, on 20 years of dedication, innovation, and impact. We’re grateful for everything you’ve contributed and looking forward to what’s ahead.
