The project focused on improving site hydrology through strategic regrading and targeted modifications to existing stormwater infrastructure. These enhancements allow the site to better capture and retain stormwater before it enters the City of Toledo’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4), supporting improved water quality and more effective stormwater management.
Located in a heavily developed and industrial area, the project will create and enhance approximately seven acres of wetland habitat — introducing critical ecological function in a landscape where natural wetlands are limited. This Toledo wetland restoration project highlights how infrastructure and environmental goals can align to deliver meaningful, sustainable outcomes.
Construction timing has further supported early success. Spring rainfall in the Toledo area has already been captured by the site, demonstrating improved water retention and hydrologic performance. Early signs of ecological benefit are also evident, with amphibians, birds, and mammals already utilizing the restored habitat.
Notably, shorebirds were observed stopping over at the site shortly after construction wrapped up — an encouraging sign during peak migration season. Wetlands are essential habitats for migrating and breeding species in the spring, and this restored system is already beginning to provide those benefits.
Native planting is currently underway and will strengthen long-term ecosystem performance by increasing biodiversity, improving habitat structure, and enhancing natural water filtration. As vegetation becomes established, the site will continue to evolve into a resilient wetland system that supports both environmental and community goals.
EnviroScience will continue to share updates as the Williams Ditch Wetland Restoration project progresses.

Early Signs of Ecological Benefit
Few environmental firms in the country retain EnviroScience’s degree of scientific know-how, talent, and capability under one roof. The diverse backgrounds of our biologists, environmental engineers, scientists, and divers enable us to provide comprehensive in-house services and an integrated approach to solving environmental challenges—saving clients time, reducing costs, and ensuring high-quality results.
Our client guarantee is to provide “Excellence in Any Environment,” meaning no matter what we do, we will deliver on our Core Values of respect, client advocacy, quality work, accountability, teamwork, and safety. EnviroScience was created with the concept that we could solve complex problems by empowering great people. This concept still holds true today as our scientists explore the latest environmental legislation and regulations and incorporate the most up-to-date technology to gather and report data.
EnviroScience expertise includes but is not limited to aquatic surveys (including macroinvertebrate surveys and biological assessments); ecological restoration; ecological services (including impact assessments, invasive species control, and water quality monitoring); emergency response; engineering and compliance services; endangered mussel surveys; laboratory and analysis; stormwater management; sustainability services; threatened and endangered species; and wetlands and streams (including delineation and mitigation). Further, EnviroScience is one of the few biological firms in the country that is a general member of the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) and offers full-service commercial diving services.
