EnviroScience Wetland Operations Manager Emmalisa Kennedy

Emmalisa “Emma” Kennedy, PWS, has been a valued member of the EnviroScience family since 2010.

As the Wetlands Operations Manager in the Natural Resources Practice Area for EnviroScience, Emma is the technical lead for wetland delineation and stream evaluation, as well as a project manager for large and small projects for a variety of clients, including utility, commercial, park systems, and private property. 

She is a senior technical and editorial reviewer for wetland reporting, permit applications, and other coordination documents within the wetlands practice area. Emma ensures that internal quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) metrics are achieved by producing high-quality work products. In addition, she is a mentor for new employees in the wetland practice area. She trains incoming staff in field delineation and conducts rigorous reviews of their written documents.

Emma also graciously and selflessly serves as the lead for EnviroScience’s Corporate Responsibility Committee—a tremendous undertaking—as this enthusiastic, employee-led group is responsible for an enormous amount of community outreach initiatives.

Emma received her Bachelor of Arts from Hiram College in 2003 and her Master of Science from Kent State University in 2009. Throughout her education, she focused on environmental chemistry, natural resource management, aquatic ecology, and invasive management and earned her initial certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist in 2019.

Outside of work, you can catch Emma running on the trail, playing soccer, or getting her nature fix with her husband and her two children.

Paul Anderson

Mr. Paul Anderson holds a B.S. degree in Biology from the University of Minnesota and an M.S. degree in Aquatic Ecology from Kent State University. Working as a Senior Scientist within the ecological services division of EnviroScience, Inc. from 2013 to 2023, Paul recently retired and is now focused on the Stream Habitat Evaluation Training Courses he offers through his company, Spring from the Source, LLC, DBA Ohio Stream Assessment Training.

Paul has over 35 years of professional experience, including 18 years of experience as a field biologist with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Division of Surface Water. He has coordinated and implemented numerous projects relating to the study of biological conditions, water and sediment quality, and habitat integrity of aquatic resources. 

While at Ohio EPA, Paul assessed streams and inland lakes to determine the attainment of chemical and biological water quality criteria. He also developed plans to preserve and protect aquatic resources through the preparation of integrated water quality and Total Maximum Daily Load reports. Paul played a key role in the development of protocols to establish the Ohio EPA nearshore Lake Erie monitoring program currently being conducted by Ohio EPA.

He was also active in water quality assessment, remedial projects, and habitat improvement projects for the Black River and the Ashtabula River Great Lakes Areas of Concern. Paul and his colleagues at the Ohio EPA developed an aquatic life use classification system and evaluation protocols for Primary Headwater Habitat stream ecosystems. He also worked to develop a statewide protocol for the evaluation of stream mitigation requirements related to 401 Water Quality Certifications for stream and Lake Erie estuary impacts in Ohio for incorporation into the Ohio water quality standards.

Paul holds Level 3 Qualified Data Collector status for Water Chemistry and Fish Community Biology through the Ohio EPA Credible Data Program (CDP). He is also a Qualified Trainer for stream habitat and fish community assessment using Ohio EPA methodologies through the CDP.

Max Koran

Max Koran Virginia EnviroScience

Max Koran joined EnviroScience in 2011, providing expertise in systems ecology, hydrogeology, sedimentology, remote sensing, and biogeochemistry. He is recognized as an industry expert in the field of emergency response—staffing and managing over 100 train derailments for Class 1 railroads across the eastern and central portions of the United States. 

Max holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Cleveland State University. In addition, he has completed the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wetland delineation training, HAZWOPER 40-hour training, OSHA Stormwater Management training, and RCRA hazardous waste training.

Max’s diverse academic background has allowed him to provide technical assistance on a variety of projects, including wetland delineations, water quality assessments, sediment sampling efforts, environmental compliance on construction sites, ecological restoration, Section 106 coordination, and threatened and endangered species habitat identification.

In his current role as an environmental scientist, Max provides extensive environmental and cultural resource due diligence support for the solar industry. He is also responsible for technical report preparation and has prepared scientific journal articles for peer-reviewed publications.  

In his free time, he performs independent research in the field of zymology.

Cory Fox

EnviroScience Fisheries Biologist Cory FoxCory Fox has been a Fisheries Biologist with EnviroScience since 2015, specializing in sampling and identifying freshwater and brackish fish species using electrofishing equipment and various trap nets. 

Cory has also assisted the Mid-Atlantic field crew with other various types of data collection, including water quality, sediment, and fish tissue for analysis.  While working on his Fisheries Conservation degree at Virginia Tech, he collected freshwater mussels for propagation as part of the Virginia Freshwater Mussel Restoration Strategy.

Keli Stambaugh, PMP

EnviroScience Restoration Project Manager Keli StambaughKeli M. Stambaugh, PMP, has been with EnviroScience, Inc. since 2023 and currently serves as Restoration Project Manager.

Having recently returned to the Cleveland, Ohio, metropolitan area, Keli brings a wealth of experience from the Maryland and District of Columbia regions.

Her experience includes top-level project management and program development for environmental projects for numerous nonprofit and government clients, including project and team development with:

  • Corvias, The Clean Water Partnership, Prince George’s County, Maryland
  • DC Water Green Infrastructure, District of Columbia
  • Maryland State Highway Erosion and Sediment Control
  • Maryland Department of Environment
  • The Chesapeake Conservation Landscape Council

Keli’s project experience includes the construction and maintenance of multistage stormwater management systems and projects. These projects involve MS4 Best Management Practices (BMP) inspections, stream restorations, stream stabilizations, reforestation projects, invasive vegetation management, green roofs, and overall ecological rehabilitation.

Keli also has 25 years of success in coordination for all levels of stakeholder engagement, contract management, and multi-year mentorship development for stormwater construction and maintenance programs. The diverse nature of her work demands proficiency with issues related to stormwater management and restoration, sediment and erosion control, construction management, and team leadership.

Keli’s ability to quickly recognize and assess problems and then formulate and implement timely, cost-effective solutions makes her an integral part of the EnviroScience team.

Tim Ator

A valued EnviroScience employee since 2010, Tim Ator is an environmental scientist for the Emergency Response & Environmental Assessment team.

Initially hired as an environmental inspector, Tim worked to ensure Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) compliance for the construction activities of multiple pipeline projects. Those responsibilities included on-site guidance for minimizing construction impacts of streams, wetlands, and other sensitive areas and providing weekly environmental compliance reports.

In his current role within the Emergency Response and Environmental Assessment group, Tim responds to spills and train derailments. His responsibilities also include water and sediment sampling, vibracore sediment sampling, infield chemistry readings with various instruments, field management of long-term sampling and monitoring activities, and restoration of impacted and sensitive areas.

Melissa Vaccarino

EnviroScience Aquatic Biologist and Algal Taxonomist Melissa VaccarinoA valued member of the EnviroScience family since 2013, Melissa Vaccarino, M.S., fills several roles as aquatic biologist, data manager, and quality control assistant. She has experience in ecological, microbial, and molecular methods. She earned her B.S. in Biology (with a minor in Geology) from Baldwin Wallace College, and M.S. (with funded research assistantship) from John Carroll University.

With over a decade of freshwater experience, Melissa holds both Level 1 and Level 2 Diatom Taxonomic Certifications. At EnviroScience, she teams up with a highly skilled group of taxonomists to complete projects, including USEPA’s National Rivers and Streams Assessment (NRSA), in 2013, 2018, and 2023. Prior to EnviroScience, Melissa’s experience during her undergrad and master’s programs included soft algal identification, culture, and molecular taxonomic analysis. She coauthored several articles that were published in the Journal of Phycology, Phycological Research, and others.

As a data manager, Melissa performs project-specific tasks which may include sample tracking, data entry, data quality checks, mass import for consolidation of data between laboratories, and query exports for final reports and statistics. For USEPA’s National Wetland Condition Assessment (NWCA; 2016 and 2021), she maintained +5,000 herbarium vouchers (field data, lab data, and sample tracking), conducted weekly quality control of incoming data, and coordinated with field crews and botanists to resolve any data issues. For the Cleveland Hopkins Airport Biofilm project, she maintains current and historical chemical and biological data from over 100 test parameters and exports targeted combined datasets for statistical analysis. She also helps to maintain EnviroScience’s CRM and company-related data. Between these projects and others, she has handled well over one million points of data.

Melissa additionally assists other departments with technical writing and/or comprehensive review of reports. Her experience with both publishing and data management helps ensure that EnviroScience delivers a high-quality final product.

Brendan Morgan

EnviroScience Invasive Vegetation Biologist Brendan MorganBrendan Morgan joined EnviroScience in 2018 and is an Invasive Vegetation Biologist. His entire career has focused on fieldwork and conducting various surveys.

Brendan’s work has taken him around the globe. He lived alone in a field station in the Costa Rican mountains for seven months, worked on fishing boats in Alaska, and worked a great deal in Northeast Ohio. Most of his work has been with different kinds of botanical surveys, but he has also done extensive wetland delineation work as well as bird, amphibian, and deer surveys.

Brendan’s Master’s thesis focused on tropical invertebrate communities in small headwater streams and how they are affected by detrital levels and seasonal spates.

Chuck Kessler, AICP, CEP

NEPA Specialist

Chuck Kessler is a certified planner and certified environmental planner for EnviroScience’s Ohio environmental consulting services. Chuck manages key projects involving site assessment services and NEPA compliance activity for federally funded projects. He is knowledgeable and experienced in the site assessment process, ODOT’s Transportation Development Process (PDP), the Local Public Agency (LPA) project development process, and various environmental regulations relating to transportation, land development, property assessment, and construction projects.

Chuck has written and managed the preparation of numerous environmental documents and reports. These have included Phase 1 ESA’s (due diligence investigations), environmental assessments (EIS format), categorical exclusion (CE) documents, feasible alternative summaries, transportation corridor studies, 404 Army Corps of Engineers permits, 401 state water quality certifications and Isolated Wetlands Permits, Section 4(f) evaluations, and Section 106 consultation documents. He is familiar with the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the National Historic Preservation Act, the Ohio Department of Transportation Act, CERCLA, RCRA, NPDES, the Clean Water Act, All Appropriate Inquiry, AAI, etc. In addition, Chuck has extensive experience in dealing with the public and local government stakeholders and conducting project-related public involvement activities for the firm.

Patrick Evankovich

EnviroScience Commercial Operations Manager Patrick Evankovich

Since joining our team in 2012, Patrick Evankovich has demonstrated outstanding leadership and expertise as Commercial Operations Manager. A graduate of Divers Academy International and a certified Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) Air Diving Supervisor, Patrick has honed his skills through a diverse range of certifications and training programs, including the National Highway Institute (NHI) underwater bridge inspection and in-service bridge inspection courses, Kirby Morgan Helmet Technician, and CSXT Hazmat Tank Car Specialist.

Overseeing commercial diving services, Patrick manages a wide array of projects, from endangered species surveys to large-scale construction projects and emergency response. His experience encompasses critical infrastructure tasks such as bridge and dam inspection, Sluice gate inspection and installation, bulkhead design and installation, and other specialized underwater construction projects.  This wide-ranging experience underscores Patrick’s adaptability and versatility.

He is also adept in mechanics and fabrication, including topside and underwater welding and burning. His mechanical expertise extends to maintaining intricate water, air, and hydraulic systems for our clients and maintaining and training staff on in-house equipment maintenance. Patrick displays a high level of quality and pride in maintaining not only client projects but also our diving offices and shop spaces.

Patrick’s dedication to safety is a cornerstone of his role at EnviroScience. His responsibilities include project management, marketing, and on-site supervision of diving operations. He has been instrumental in maintaining and developing safety programs, including a confined space entry program, company-wide JSAs, and up-to-date diving operation safety plans for IMCA and USACE-compliant job sites.

Patrick’s extensive topside and in-water work experience includes significant projects involving ships husbandry, submarine maintenance, train car recovery, and various large oil and gas projects. He continues to play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of our commercial diving operations, emphasizing a safe work environment and meticulous operational management.
