Phil Mathias Named Marine Services Manager

EnviroScience Marine Services Practice Area Manager Phil Mathias

We are excited to name Phil Mathias as the new manager of ES’s Marine Services Practice Area, which focuses on freshwater mussel services, commercial diving, and underwater services.

Phil has spent seven years as a consultant project manager for ecological work and as key support staff for marine infrastructure and commercial diving projects. He has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (Biology) from the University of Toledo and a Master of Science from Central Michigan University, where he completed his thesis under Dr. David Zanatta on the “Signature of postglacial colonization on contemporary genetic structure and diversity of Quadrula quadrula (Bivalvia: Unionidae)”—a native, widespread freshwater mussel.

Phil excels at managing large, complex projects such as developing biological assessments, programmatic agreements, and conservation plans for large utilities and DOTs. His expertise in logistics, communication, and agency coordination provides experience-based assistance to both the private and public sectors.

Phil’s experience includes managing multiple field crews and project components, aquatic survey design, mussel surveys and relocations, eastern hellbender surveys, e-DNA, commercial diving support, and environmental commitment monitoring for large utilities. His considerable ecological and management experience, combined with his knowledge of all of EnviroScience’s capabilities, has been a recipe for success. We congratulate Phil on this well-deserved position and are honored to have him on the EnviroScience team.
