Several concrete piers from the former Struthers Dam rise from the Mahoning River as water flows freely around them, marking a key stage in the dam removal and river restoration process. Woody debris and restored flow patterns illustrate the transition from an impounded pool to a more natural river system. Completed between 2019 and 2022, the Struthers Dam removal project addressed decades of sediment contamination and included channel and floodplain restoration, habitat enhancements, and innovative sediment management strategies to improve ecological function and community value along the river.
