Warren – Summit St. – 2

Water flows over the Summit Street low-head dam on the Mahoning River in Warren, Ohio, with a railroad bridge visible upstream. The structure created a hydraulic drop that limited fish passage and posed safety concerns for recreational users. Supported by EnviroScience from 2022 to 2024, the Summit Street Dam removal project involved phased demolition, sediment management, mussel salvage, and extensive habitat restoration. Removal of the dam reconnected more than nine miles of free-flowing river and contributed to long-term improvements in water quality and ecological function.
