New Visitor Center Unveiled by CVNP

CVNP Visitor Center

Last month, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP)
unveiled its new Boston Mills Visitor Center. At the ceremony, EnviroScience
was recognized as one of the contributors towards the project, having completed
invasive species control along the streambanks and planted the visitor center
landscape plantings. This project was an important step for the park, as it
lacked a full-service, central visitor center to welcome its over two million
visitors each year. Amenities at the visitor center include indoor exhibits to
orient visitors to the park and its geography, natural resources, history, and
surrounding areas; gift shop; and an outdoor pavilion and courtyard that will
provide park information and resources year-round.

The opening of new visitors’ center in CVNP has also drawn attention to other needs of the park, such as repairs and updates to the scenic railroad track, bridges, and culverts; and restoration of the riverbank next to the railroad and Towpath Trail. These are two of the park’s popular attraction, drawing in visitors, many of who travel from out-of-state.

U.S. Senator Rob Portman joined the opening ceremony, reminding the crowd of the Restore Our Parks Act, a bill that would create a fund to address maintenance within the National Park System. The bill proposed to take half of the royalties from on-shore and off-shore energy projects to create a fund for the parks, which would enable upgrades to the park systems. Portman is the co-author of the Restore Our Parks Act, along with U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, which proposes taking half of the royalties from on-shore and off-shore energy projects and creating a new fund for the parks. A similar bill passed the House Natural Resources Committee in June.

Much as with our work at the CVNP visitor center, EnviroScience can help you with native plantings and invasive species control on any of your properties.
