EnviroScience Helps TimkenSteel Win Two E3 Program Gold Level Awards

TimkenSteel first reached out to EnviroScience in 2015 for assistance with their goal to win an Ohio EPA E3 (Encouraging Environmental Excellence) Award. According to the Ohio EPA, the purpose of the E3 program is to “reduce the impact of business or organizational activities on the environment beyond measures required by any permit or rule, producing a better environment, conserving natural resources and resulting in long-term economic benefits.” EnviroScience worked closely with the TimkenSteel Water Treatment Plant team to review their existing processes and identify potential solutions that would meet the goals of the E3 program. Together the team developed an idea to reduce the use of chemicals and reduce the annual wastewater solids generated. The team’s effort garnered TimkenSteel an E3 Gold Level Award.

To aid continuous improvement, TimkenSteel and EnviroScience put forth another waste reduction effort beginning in 2018. This idea required the development and creation of a novel piece of equipment. Consequently, the team expanded to include an additional partner to bring the concept to fruition. The team engaged Henry Filters, a leader in developing and producing industrial cleaning technology and chip/coolant systems equipment. The expanded team first developed a pilot system, and after a few modifications, the new equipment was built and installed at the Water Treatment Plant. The new equipment significantly reduced the volumes of wastewater solids. In 2020, another E3 Gold Level Award was presented to TimkenSteel.

These awards demonstrate TimkenSteel’s dedication to protecting the environment and EnviroScience’s creativity to help clients achieve their goals.  EnviroScience has been helping clients meet their challenges in any environmental effort since 1989.
