Dr. Bailey Slagle

Aquatic Biologist

Bailey Slagle, Ph.D. has been an aquatic biologist in the Aquatic Biology Laboratory for EnviroScience since 2020. She has 12 years of experience conducting algal research. She has a diverse background, having studied and worked in aquatic biology and geological sciences.

Bailey earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences in 2016 and her Bachelor of Science (cum laude) in Geological Sciences in 2009—both from the University of Florida. From studying the geochemistry of mid-ocean ridge lava to studying the ecophysiology and genetics of a cyanobacterial strain for bioenergy production, she is a lover of learning about the natural world and its applications. After earning her doctorate, Bailey developed an algal biofuel production system at the Duke Marine Laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher.

At EnviroScience, Bailey pairs her interests with her expertise in algal and zooplankton identification for indicators of water quality, lab analyses, proposal development, project management, algal culturing, and experimentation. In addition, she is experienced in water quality chemical analyses, microbiology techniques, molecular biology techniques, and microscopy techniques.

Besides “science-ing,” she loves being outdoors with her pups and husband and enjoys crafting.

Few environmental firms in the country retain EnviroScience’s degree of scientific know-how, talent, and capability under one roof. The diverse backgrounds of our biologists, environmental engineers, scientists, and divers enable us to provide comprehensive in-house services and an integrated approach to solving environmental challenges—saving clients time, reducing costs, and ensuring high-quality results.

EnviroScience expertise includes but is not limited to: aquatic survey (including macroinvertebrate surveys and biological assessments); ecological restoration; ecological services (including impact assessments, invasive species control, and water quality monitoring);  emergency response; engineering and compliance services; endangered mussel surveys; laboratory and analysis; stormwater management; threatened and endangered species; and wetlands and streams (including delineation and mitigation). Further, EnviroScience is one of the few biological firms in the country that is a general member of the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) and offers full-service commercial diving services.
