The Foote Lecture Series was established in 2013 and endowed by EnviroScience in memory of Professor Benjamin A. Foote. Ben taught invertebrate zoology, entomology, aquatic ecology, and other related courses in the Department of Biological Sciences at Kent State University for more than 35 years. Over that span, he published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, wrote several book chapters on Sciomizid flies, mentored countless undergraduates, and served as the graduate advisor to more than 50 students, many of whom credit him for their inspiration and professional success as teachers, scientists, and researchers. He was recognized by numerous academic organizations and received the University’s Outstanding Teaching Award in 1987. In 2004, he received the Herbert Osborn Award in recognition of a lifetime of teaching, research, and mentoring. Ben was an advisor to several EnviroScience principals and staff. He served on EnviroScience’s board of directors for nearly twenty years until his passing in 2014.
