EnviroScience ecologists are experienced in the area of terrestrial survey including endangered species survey. Terrestrial surveys are required as part of Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Level II and Level III transportation projects and other large-scale developments, and are useful to inventory wildlife for purposes of land management, recreational areas planning, or protection of state or federally listed species. Methods used generally follow a similar format to that described in ODOT's Ecological Guidelines, however, these are primarily qualitative. EnviroScience follows more quantitative protocols or develops their own methods as necessary to suit specific project needs.
In a typical vegetative survey, woody and herbaceous macrophytes are often identified by vegetative class (canopy, understory, shrub/sapling and ground cover) within each plant community. Communities are described, in part, by the types of dominant species noted.
